Ahly’s El-Said hails teamwork in Champions League

Egyptian international midfielder Abdallah El-Said says they will continue to work as a team in the CAF Champions League.

The Al Ahly playmaker was speaking about their qualification into the Round of 16 of the continental club tournament.

The 31-year-old was key for the Red Devils as they downed Bidvest Wits 1-0 on aggregate in their first round.

“ِMatches in the African Champions League do not see double figure scores nowadays and it’s really difficult to score many goals against a team in the group stages, » said El-Said.

“Every team in the tournament studies their opponents well enough to dampen their strength points.

« We are working hard to get in our best possible shape to try and get decent results to progress to the following rounds.

“Al-Ahly is a club that wins competitions and doesn’t just participate in tournaments for the sake of it. Following our 1-0 win in Cairo, we were thinking about the away game, and considering how tough an opponent Bidvest is.”

Meanwhile, the midfielder added that criticism from the fans is not a concern to him as he is experienced enough to deal with such issues.

“I have the experience to deal with positive or completely negative reactions, » he adds.

« I’m just a player like any other player in the team. The club isn’t registered with my name on it. The performance overall isn’t affected by one single player.

“The road is still very long. The national team requires hard work and dedication.

« It’s great that we won our first two qualifying matches. The team is in a good shape and the players are working hard for it.

“I hope that this generation qualifies to the World Cup and restores glory to Egyptian football again. »
