‘Marcel Desailly the right man for Black Stars’ – Ghana coaching veteran

Published

Marcel Desailly should be appointed Ghana’s next manager according to JE Sarpong, a veteran of coaching in the West African country.

Avram Grant left his post with Ghana following their failure to win the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, leaving the managerial role vacant.

The Ghana FA insists that they will take their time in appointing a new incumbent, but Sarpong wants to see them hand the job to Desailly.

The 48-year-old was born in Accra, Ghana, but represented France in his international career and won the 1998 World Cup, Euro 2000 and two Confederations Cup titles.

“Marcel Desailly for me is the right man for the vacant coaching job and I see him as the person who can end our nation’s trophyless jinx,” Sarpong told United Television, as quoted by GHANASoccernet.

“Foreign coaches can’t win trophies for us and so I don’t see the rationale behind their appointments.

“ I think Marcel Desailly has what it takes to lead the senior national team as he remains the only option that can bring success to us when given the top coaching job.

“Again with the help of Ibrahim Tanko and Kwesi Appiah being part of his technical men in the dugout, I have no doubt that they can do the job when task to do so,” he concluded.

This is the second time that Desailly has been strongly linked with the Ghanaian job, having been named as a possible successor to Milovan Rajevac back in 2010.
