Michael Owen sees in Mbappé a future Ballon d’Or

Winner in 2001, Michael Owen estimated that Kylian Mbappé would be a big favorite at the Ballon d’Or in the coming years.

It is in front of famous former players that Cristiano Ronaldo received his fifth Ballon d’Or, Thursday evening, in a ceremony organized at the Eiffel Tower by ‘France Football’. Like Brazilian Ronaldo, Raul, Roberto Carlos, Kaka or Fabio Cannavaro, Michael Owen was also present.

The former England striker won the prestigious award in 2001. Asked about his favorites for the future, Owen has two ideas: Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. It even provides a bright future for the young French international who exploded this year. « It seems to me that Cristiano spoke on stage, » he said in remarks relayed by ‘L’Equipe’. « He said players like Neymar or Mbappé will surely be the favorites in the future and will be able to win a Golden Ball. Who knows ? You never know who will evolve, and maybe stand out at the next World Cup. The World may reveal a future star. Currently, the high level is dominated by Ronaldo and Messi. But that will not always be the case. Someone else will win the trophy. And I think maybe it’s Mbappé or Neymar.  »

As a reminder, Kylian Mbappé finished in 7th place for the 2017 edition. A record, when he was named for the first time in his career. Neymar, for his part, completes the podium behind Ronaldo and Messi.
