“Who will win the PSL?” – Reader’s Voice

Published

on

There are several teams that are expected to win the Absa Premiership, but some are facing a reality check, after suffering this season. Who are the teams that are still in the running to win the Absa Premiership this season?

Orlando Pirates fans will feel annoyed that their team is floating just above the relegation zone.

At the beginning of the season, Dr Khoza, signed a lot of players such as Ayanda Nkosi, Justice Chabalala, Abubaker Mobara and Donald Makudubela, to name a few, as the Buccaneers seemed tired of going so many years without winning a trophy. Mushin Ertugral was brought in to make sure that this was a great 80th anniversary year for the « happy people ». But, this has been a season to forget for Pirates.

Reigning African champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, were favourites to retain their title, but after a defeat to Kaizer Chiefs and a five-match winless run, their hopes are quickly fading away. Their hectic schedule is not helping as they try to defend their league title.

Bidvest Wits should be favourites with their squad and two games in hand. They lie second and have a coach who knows how to win league titles. Being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup could be a blessing for their title aspirations.

SuperSport United could be derailed by competing on three fronts, like Downs. The news that their coach is leaving for Bafana could also challenge the players mentally.

Kaizer Chiefs at one stage seemed out of the race but, after going undefeated since December, they have bought themselves back into it. If Amakhosi can avoid draws against weaker opposition, then they could go on and lift the trophy.

Ghana: Kwesi Appiah defends continued exclusion of Ayew brothers!

Published

on

In recent months, the Ghanaian selection has had bad results. Some players were ousted by the coach whose brothers Jordan and André Ayew. Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah defended the continued exclusion of the Black Stars Ayew brothers.

The 57-year-old tactician did not call Andrew and his younger brother, Jordan, because the duo was out of Ghana’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville for injuries and illnesses .

André and Jordan, who play for England’s West Ham United and Swansea City, respectively, were also dismissed by Appiah when he played for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in 2013.

However, Appiah said in an interview with KweseESPN that he is simply doing what he thinks is in the best interest of the team.

« Someone I call, people will complain, it’s something I’m used to, » Appiah said. « There are so many players doing very well and there is no way I can call everyone. « .

The Black Stars endured a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the West African side fail to reserve its place in next year ‘s final.

« The most important thing is that I have to make good selections with those who are good for this team as the head coach, » he continued.

« And do not allow people to complain about influencing it. If I have to worry about it, I’ll call a hundred players.  »

It remains to be seen whether Appiah will remember the Ayew brothers before the CAN 2019 CAN qualifier against Kenya in October of next year.
